November 21st, 2016 - Seattle, WA:  The Gothard Sisters’ 2016 Pacific Northwest Christmas Tour will present Celtic folk rising stars the Gothard Sisters at the Old Church Concert Hall in Portland Oregon on Friday December 2; at Edmonds Center for the Arts in Edmonds Washington on Thursday December 8; and Central Washington University in Ellensburg Washington on December 9.  Curtain time is 7:30 in Portland and Edmonds, 7 PM in Ellensburg.

ABOUT THE GOTHARD SISTERS

The Gothard Sisters are a dynamic all-female Celtic-inspired folk music group from the Pacific Northwest, USA.  The three women (who are truly sisters!) have become internationally recognized as multi-instrumentalist Celtic-influenced folk musicians, songwriters, and performers from the Pacific Northwest, USA. This concert will feature your favorite holiday melodies, with a Celtic twist!

Beginning their career by playing for tips at the local farmer’s market, now the sisters regularly perform more than 120 shows a year nationally and internationally.  Their special brand of Celtic-inspired original music pays respect to the older traditions of folk and classical music, while reintroducing them to a modern audience through beautiful new arrangements.

Although much of the sisters’ inspiration comes with a distinct Celtic flair, hints of their western American heritage can be heard in what Irish Central calls “an earthiness that gives the songs a lively, approachable, down-home sound.” In addition to their musical endeavors, each of the sisters are highly trained in competitive Irish dance, bringing the exciting rhythms of Ireland to their live shows through dance, music, song, and storytelling.

Over the last nine years the band has built a loyal following, independent of any music label, by connecting with audiences in a lively, entertaining and touching way and by insisting on a DIY approach in everything they do - self producing their award-winning albums, energetic live shows and imaginative music videos. In 2013, the Irish Music Awards presented the Gothard Sisters with Best New Irish Artist, and they were awarded with Album of the Year for Celtic Radio in 2011 for their album Story Girl.  In March 2015, their music video covering the old English ballad, Scarborough Fair, reached over 1 million views on youtube.

ABOUT THE CHRISTMAS TOUR

The Christmas tour will include Celtic-inspired arrangements of Christmas favorites, ancient carols re-imagined in new ways, Irish step dancing, sibling antics, storytelling and a magical holiday evening concert for the whole family.

“We can’t wait to bring our Christmas tour back to the Pacific Northwest for the third year in a row,” said Greta Gothard, the oldest of the Gothard Sisters, “these are fun shows for the whole family, and we love getting to share these beautiful old songs with people in a new way while celebrating the season.”

“Their grasp of style and presentation is big league, even when playing in more intimate settings.  This is a trio that comes off like an orchestra.”  - Celtic Beat Magazine

“These women are talented, beautiful, conscientious purveyors of beautifully crafted Irish music.”  - Victory Music Magazine

NEW CHRISTMAS ALBUM  - FALLING SNOW

December 2016 will also the release of a new album of Celtic-inspired Christmas music from the Gothard Sisters in their new holiday album, Falling Snow.

“It was high time for a new Christmas album featuring the songs we’ve been playing at the Christmas shows over the last few years - there were many great songs and arrangements just begging to be recorded,” says Greta Gothard, “The music of Christmas is so beautiful, it has been a delight to work on these arrangements of eight classics - Hark! the Herald Angels Sing, Still Still Still, Winter Wonderland, Skater's Waltz, Good King Wenceslas, God Rest Ye Merry Gentlemen, French Carol (Il Est Ne Le Divin Enfant) and Joy to the World, as well as including two new tunes that the band wrote - Christmas Flower and The Happy Elf.”

The new album, Falling Snow, will be available December 1st on the Gothard Sisters’ website, iTunes, Amazon and all other online outlets as well as at each of the shows on the Christmas Tour.
