Goitse was one of the best Friday night. The group, which came together at Limerick University’s Irish World Academy of Music and Dance, burned on a handful of set tunes. Early on, two medleys from the band’s new “Inspired By Chance” album reinforced the accolades the group is receiving, as well as each member’s considerable skill.

Banjoist James Harvey drove all the dance numbers; fiddler and singer Aine McGeeney played rollicking solos and sang in a high, childlike pitch full of soul and rich texture; Colm Phelan boosted his skillful performance on bodhran with stories and jokes; Tadhg O’Meachair rocked the house on accordion; and Conal O’Kane was rock solid on guitar.
