Biography

Mànran have quite literally rocketed to the top of the Scottish music scene with their powerful combination of Gaelic/English songs underpinned by driving Accordion, Fiddle, Flute and a backline of drum and bass to make any mouth water. Mànran are also the only band to host Highland and Uilleann pipes together in one line up to create a sound like no other.

It was clear in June 2010, that the time had come for the 6 friends to unite and uphold the fresh, unstoppable sound of modern Gaelic Scotland. Since then, Mànran have already performed at festivals in Europe and Scotland; highlights being Celtica, Italy and the Hebridean Celtic Festival in Lewis.

Mànran brought in the new Year as the live house band for the BBC ALBA Hogmanay show in 2010, and as of 2011 have performed as part of Celtic Connections at the O2 ABC1, and the Royal Concert Hall supporting Kepa Junkera.

On January 17th 2011, Mànran released their first Gaelic single ‘Latha Math’ for download only from iTunes and other major music download sites. The single was produced by two of the country’s top producers, Calum Malcolm (Wet Wet Wet, Simple Minds and runrig) and legendary accordion player and musician Phil Cunningham.

This was met with unbelievable success
for the band and finished:
No 1 in the UK singer/songwriter charts
No 6 in the Scottish download charts
No 6 on Radio 1 Indie charts

This, all produced by a band with no label nor management, highlighting the talent and hard work produced by Mànran.

Mànran also featured on BBC Reporting Scotland, 5 Live, Real Radio, and The Hour Show on STV as a result of the rabid enthusiasm and excitement behind their campaign. needless to say, the band are very excited about a prosperous 2011.

‘Mànran are an exceptionally talented bunch of young guys that are taking the music world by storm with their high energy, stomping tunes and phenomenal gaelic/english songs’
Donald Shaw, Celtic Connections
